Ravana having caused great destruction to the Vanara army started to go in the direction of Rama. Sugreeva saw the sorry plight of his army and came to their rescue. He plucked several huge trees and used them as weapons. The Vanaras also hurled huge rocks at the rakshasas and broke their skulls. Virupaksha came riding his elephant and shot arrows at Sugreeva who killed the elephant with a huge tree. Virupaksha got down from his elephant and attacked with his sword and a shield made of ox skin. They dashed against each other. However, Sugreeva gave him a big blow on his forehead and he fell dead bleeding profusely. The Vanaras raised a loud noise and expressed their joy.
