Indrajit captures Hanuman - Chapter 26

In the previous chapter, we saw Death of Akshakumara. , Now we'll see Indrajit captures Hanuman.

Ravana controlled his anger and called his son Indrajit who was in great fury at the havoc made by Hanuman. Ravana told his son that he was a great warrior and had obtained several astras after pleasing Lord Brahma. He said that no one dared to face him and he was invincible. Ravana said “Your strength from your penance and your physical strength make me forget the loss that had been brought by Hanuman who has killed the commanders of our army, five sons of the Minister, and also your dear brother Aksha. The enemy is very powerful and so you have to use tactics to kill him. Use your skills of warfare. I am sending you because you are the only one who can get victory or else I would refrain from sending you who is so dear to me”. Indrajit saluted his father took his blessings and started off. He decided to take all precautions and fight with great care. He came out like an ocean during a storm. His chariot was drawn by tigers that could run swiftly. (In Ramayana we see that chariots were drawn not only by horses and mules but also by tigers, which is rather not common).

Indrajit was a mighty warrior and expert in using various weapons and astras. When Hanuman saw him approaching he was very happy to face him. Nature trembled as it were because of the pending fierce battle. Hanuman made a loud noise and took a gigantic form. He stopped the arrows shot by Indrajit and roamed in the skies like his father the wind God. Indrajit sent powerful arrows which normally never miss their targets. But Hanuman escaped from all of them unhurt. Indrajit saw this and he realized that Hanuman was someone who could not be killed. So he sent Brahmastra in order to bind him. Hanuman was bound and he could not move his limbs. He realized that it was Brahmastra and prayed. He knew that he would be in such a bound state only for a short time so he accepted to be so. The rakshasas saw Hanuman immobile and not realizing Hanuman’s valor and the real reason for him being motionlessly tied further with ropes and tree barks. Hanuman remained quiet and let them do what they wanted. However, he was no more bound by Brahmastra because it lost its effect the moment other means were used to tie him. That was the nature of Brahmastra. Indrajit who knew this was upset and expected Hanuman to cause havoc. But Hanuman pretended as if he was still bound by Brahmastra. The rakshasas bet Hanuman and dragged him to Ravana’s court. Indrajit proudly showed Hanuman thus tied to his father. On the way, the rakshasas looked at Hanuman and wondered what it was and where from it came. Some wanted to burn it, some wanted to kill it and some wanted to eat it. In this way, Hanuman was brought to the presence of Ravana. Ravana saw Hanuman and he too saw Ravana who was shining like the Sun. Ravana rolled his eyes which expressed anger and stared at Hanuman and enquired about him. Hanuman simply replied that he came from the Vanara king as a messenger.

In the next chapter, We'll see Hanuman sees the splendor of Ravana and his court.
