Hanuman’s advice to Ravana - Chapter 29

In the previous chapter, we saw the Court inquiry into Hanuman and Hanuman’s advice. , Now we'll see Hanuman’s advice to Ravana.

Hanuman addressed Ravana thus. He said, “Oh king of Rakshasas I have come to your court sent by our king Sugreeva who sends you his regards. Also please listen to his words which are full of good sense and are also according to Dharma”. Then he briefly told about Dasharatha’s greatness and how his son Rama came to the forest in order to honor his father’s words. Hanuman described how Rama’s wife Sita was stolen and how Rama met Sugreeva and the friendship that grew between them. He said that Rama killed the great Vali with one single arrow to punish him and then made Sugreeva the king of Vanaras and Bears. They also made a pact and a huge army of Vanaras was searching for Sita all over the world. Hanuman said “These Vanaras are very powerful and mighty warriors and nothing could stop them. I am Vayu’s son and I realized the impossible thing and have crossed the ocean in search of Sita and saw her in Ashoka Vana kept as a prisoner. What remains to be done would be done by Rama who is a great warrior. You have not realized that Sita is going to cause the destruction of all you love and the whole city of Lanka. O Ravana you know all the principles of dharma. You have obtained boons from Lord Brahma to the effect that you fear no death from Devas and Asuras. But remember that Rama is human.

You have enjoyed many things because of your following the principles of Dharma. But you have erred in the case of Sita. It would be befitting you to go and return Sita to Rama. Because who can live after earning the enmity of Rama? Even Indra cannot escape death if he were to hurt Rama so what about you. I single-handedly can destroy Lanka but it is proper that Rama does it himself. Rama is capable of destroying the three worlds and recreating them after that. He is equal to Lord Vishnu in his valour. After doing such a mistake you can hardly hope to live anymore. Neither Brahma nor Vishnu nor Shiva would be able to offer protection to you from the anger of Rama”.

Ravana was very furious to hear such words from Hanuman and in great anger ordered that Hanuman be put to death.

In the next chapter, We'll see Vibheeshana’s intervention
