Ravana sees ill omens - Chapter 30

In the previous chapter, we saw Agastya teaching ‘Adityahrudaya stotram’ to Rama (Sun worship) to Rama. , Now we'll see Ravana sees ill omens.

Ravana’s charioteer was in a happy mood and he drove the mighty chariot fast. It was drawn by horses wearing gold chains. It was filled with various kinds of dangerous weapons capable of great destruction. Rama saw the Rakshasa king’s chariot making a loud noise and approaching him and told his charioteer Matali to look at Ravana’s chariot, which was coming making a circle, but in a counterclockwise direction, which was inauspicious. Rama said that this was not a good sign and showed that Ravana would desire his end to come. He asked his charioteer to steer carefully and calmly holding the reigns carefully. Rama said, “You are Indra’s charioteer and you need not be taught.

I am only reminding you”. Matali happily obeyed Rama and drove his chariot in such a manner as to raise the dust and obstruct Ravana’s vision. Ravana was angry and attacked Rama with several arrows. Rama took Indra’s bow in hand and shot arrows as powerful as the sun. Devas, Gandharvas, Rishis, and Siddhas came to witness the Great War. Then there occurred several ill omens. Indra poured blood on Ravana’s chariot and the wind blew violently. Vultures were circling in the sky and followed Ravana’s chariot. Thunderbolt struck the earth at several places. The ground under the feet of Ravana trembled. Darkness fell everywhere and the sky became invisible because of dust. All these foretold Ravana’s end. On the contrary, there appeared several good omens for Rama, which assured him of his victory.

In the next chapter, We'll see The Great War of Rama and Ravana.
