Ravana became very furious when he came to know that Makaraksha was killed by Rama and called his son Indrajit and said “You the great hero should win over Rama and Lakshmana by whatever means you choose. You are so capable and brave so can’t you kill them”. Indrajit told his father that he would execute his orders and fulfill his desire. Then he started off and went to perform the Yajnya to empower himself. Then he got onto his mighty chariot with all his weapons and became invisible. He said that he would wipe off the Vanara race from the earth and also kill Rama and Lakshmana.
Then he rose in the sky and
attacked Rama and Lakshmana with many arrows. Here Indrajit undoubtedly was
flying a Vimana intended for warfare. This type of Vimana probably rose up in
the air and hovered around like a modern helicopter letting the person attack the enemy from a high position. Rama and Lakshmana were very much
wounded. They tried to locate Indrajit by watching from where the arrows came,
as he was invisible. Then they attacked him with many Astras. Lakshmana was
very much annoyed and he told Rama that he was going to employ the Brahmastra
and kill all the rakshasas. But Rama who had a generous heart told him that
he was not justified to kill all the rakshasas because of one man. Rama said
that there might be some rakshasas who were good and wanted to surrender and
hence he said that it was not allowed by Dharma to kill them. This was Rama’s
great quality that he would not hurt anyone who did not hurt him and also protect
those who surrender unto him. Rama then decided to attack Indrajit with
Nagastra. But he got the scent of it and he went back to the city after having
killed hundreds of Vanaras.
