Hanuman’s concern about Sita’s safety - Chapter 32

In the previous chapter, we saw Hanuman set fire to Lanka. , Now we'll see Hanuman’s concern about Sita’s safety.

Hanuman saw the destruction of Lanka and suddenly felt sad because he feared that in this fire even Sita could have perished. He felt very miserable in having spoilt everything with his short-sightedness and anger. He said to himself “One who did not know to control his anger is not worth living. The person in anger loses the power of clear thinking. It is best to end my life here by either entering the fire or becoming food for the creatures living in the sea”. He regretted that after all he showed his monkey nature and spoilt everything he had achieved.

Then he reflected. He consoled himself by saying that a chaste person like Sita is fire herself and hence external fire could not hurt her. Then he suddenly recalled how the fire did not hurt him at all and wondered how. Then he heard voices of celestial beings known as ‘Charanas’ saying to themselves that it was a real wonder that while the whole of Lanka was burning Sita Devi was unhurt. Hanuman heard this and felt very happy and peaceful. Nevertheless, he decided to see Sita and assure himself about her safety.

In the next chapter, We'll see Hanuman leave Lanka.
