This is a very fair and logical question definitely to be answered convincingly by us because we have positively postulated the theory of Godand recommended that the people should follow the ‘Path of Eternal Bliss’ and live a happy life.
Let us first assume that there is no God and proceed with the discussion because any theorem, if to be proved, can start only that way.
The non believers are taking this stand because we have not seen the God in person. Fair enough. Then are we going to deny the existence of all the things that we have not seen? Then in that event most of us may have to deny the existence of several bacteria, neutrons, protons, cells, galaxies etc.
Obviously we can’t deny because there are people who have seen the germs and bacteria in the laboratory through microscope and the galaxies in the sky through telescope.
That means in addition to direct perception we are also accepting indirect perception.
Then what happens to things that nobody can see but only feel-say for example hunger, love and worries etc., -Are we not accepting it. Yes we accept. We can say I feel and so I agree. Fine.
But what about the things what one can feel but some other can’t feel-say a good song for a deaf man. For him it is not felt and therefore can we take it as unreal.
We can’t because we know it is real even if he can’t feel. This means a thing which is felt by some but is not felt by others does not become unreal. It is very much real.
In fact this logic itself is sufficient to say God is there because there are many sages, seers and seekers who have realized him. But yet the rationalists won’t agree because the numbers of such people who have realized the God are in minority and therefore it is being seen as an over claim.
Therefore we don’t want to stop this enquiry with this; we will take it further forward.
There are things we see but neither have we seen the maker nor do we know who he is. Take the example of an abandoned child; we have neither seen the parents nor do we know who they are. Now are we going to say that the child has no parent?
Let us take another example. We see a pot in a shop and obviously we don’t know who made it - but are we questioning the existence of that pot maker.
No, we automatically accept that if there is a pot, there should have been a pot maker and if there is an child there should have been a parent who were responsible for this child.
On what basis this is rationalized. This is called knowledge by ‘inductive logic’. This is the superior knowledge as posited by Democritus. Now we know very clearly that if there is a thing there has to be a maker.
We are seeing so many human beings and so it is a simple logic that there should be a maker-But the counter logic could be, may be yes there should be a maker , but that is only their parents; how a God
comes in.
Fair enough. With this analogy of ‘if there is a child there should have been a parent’ we can surely go back up to say ‘Adam and Eve’.
Thereafter what happens? Perhaps we can switch over to theory of evolution and come up to Big bang. Fine.
When Big bang is accepted, which means that we accept there was a high temperature and high density state then (let us call it as anything we want - say ‘X’- )which exploded about 14 billion years ago and cooled down and from their several things happened until the arrival of human beings as explained in the man accepted laws of physics – the law of evolution.
Now this leaves two major questions to be answered. a) Who made this ‘X’ and b) How the whole thing is programmed so well as to function so rhythmically thereafter – there is no jarring note; there is nothing out of place; there is nothing without purpose; there is nothing defying the universal order; In other words everything as per a cosmic design.
So we have come up to the stage that we are accepting that the ‘X’ factor exists but we don’t know how it came or who made it.
We have seen before, if a material exists then by inductive logic there has to be a maker.
We have to therefore accept that ‘ X ‘ should have had a maker and it will be illogical to refute it. It is not relevant by what name we call that maker.
But that maker has to be very powerful because the universe he has created is so great.
Then the next question comes why such an obvious knowledge can’t be understood by everybody easily.
This is because in psychology parlance this knowledge is called ‘tacit knowledge’ which can be acquired through practice and intuition only.
Then the next question is why the persons who have acquired this wisdom should not pass it on to others by training them.
This is because while the explicit knowledge can be communicated to anybody by any medium, ‘tacit knowledge’ is not so. It is very difficult though not impossible.
For example any text book or anybody can teach what a guitar is, what its parts are, how it can be manufactured, repaired etc., because this is explicit knowledge.
But for a guitar expert to teach the great art of playing guitar to his students is not that easy. This knowledge, no matter how much an expert he is, cannot be communicated all that easily as it is not a
knowledge that when the teacher says how to play guitar the student will immediately possess that knowledge.
This knowledge has to be acquired by going beyond theory. This has to be gained only by experience. Tacit knowledge can be communicated only through consistent and extensive relationships, contacts, serious efforts, sincere practice and finally by intuition.
While we gain the knowledge of objects by hearing, seeing etc., which happens through the ‘sensory organs ’ the knowledge of the creator, happens only through the ‘intellect ’.
Hence the explicit knowledge can be gained by sensory organs, the tacit knowledge can be acquired only through intellect and intuition. That is how the sages got it and that is why we are not getting it. That is why the sages have been recommending sincere meditation.
Therefore we can now say that the existence of ‘God’ has been ‘logically’ proved and to deny it hereafter is false ego.
Actually as we have been saying God has no name and form and he can be called in any name and he can be assumed in any form. He will respond to you in that name and form. Actually the word ‘God’ in French means ‘Being Good’ and may be that is why world over that divine energy is being called as ‘GOD’.
Once a TV reporter of a Russian popular channel asked the Secretary of State of USA when he was on tour to Russia how is that America the oldest and grandest democracy say openly through their Dollar notes that “we trust in God”. Is it not becoming religious and therefore non secular’?
The Secretary replied there is a government in US as well as in Russia and asked the reporter did he agree with that. The reporter said yes.
Then he asked does he think law and order is possible without a government. The reporter said without a government law and order is not possible.
Then the secretary asked can we agree that, if a society lives in an orderly way there has to be a government. The reporter said yes.
The secretary asked does he see so many things happen in the universe in a completely orderly way and that too with such an army surgical precision ensuring that the order is never defied. The reporter said yes.
Now the secretary asked if he agrees there is total order and no chaos in the universe does it not mean there is some force governing it. The reported said yes.
Then the secretary asked by what name you would like to call it – we call it ‘God’ , you are free to call by any name.
The secretary said more importantly believing in God doesn’t make anybody or any country less secular because to be secular means ‘not to discriminate on the basis not only religious but also on the basis of say caste, color, creed and economic status . So secular does not mean denial of religion but denial of discrimination based on religion.
Let me further explain to you what our meaning of ‘God’ is . He is the Generator - G; Operator- O; and Destroyer –D. He Generates resources and opportunities; Operates and maintains the resources for the benefit of its subjects and Destroys the decayed, time barred and evil ones.
This is what we as a Government we do and that is why he is our ‘role model’ and therefore we trust in him beyond any iota of doubt.
Similarly Thomas Alwa Edisson when asked for his views on God said ‘ I have no doubt in my mind that this whole universe is operating because of the cosmic intelligence which is embedded in every being, only the ratio may differ, without which all of us would have been simply nonexistent. I may not agree with the view of the Theologians who view God as a person but I view him as an energy and force and I have no doubt on that.
Similarly once when Einstein was asked about his views on God, he said that but for the cosmic force none of the never failing physical laws are possible. Right from a cell to the cluster of galaxies operate on such unfailing laws and it is impossible for them to operate in such an orderly way unless there is a cosmic design and a cosmic ruler. We scientists discover what he has covered and gifted to the universe. I may or may not be right in using the word ‘he’ but I will be perfectly right if I use the word ‘that cosmic power.
We have seen above the views of the top most official of the most advanced nation in the world USA and two of the world’s most celebrated Scientists Edison and Einstein on the principle of the supreme power. Now even after so much of logical reasoning if someone says he does not believe in ‘God’ we have to just conclude they are foolhardy and are best ignored.
