Crowning of Vibheeshana - Chapter 36

In the previous chapter, we saw the Lamentations of Ravana’s wife Mandodari. , Now we'll see Crowning of Vibheeshana.

Rama having destroyed his enemies along with Sugreeva and the Vanara army and Lakshmana and Vibheeshana were pleased and looked like Lord Indra after his killing of Asura Vritra. The Devas and Gandharvas also returned happily to their abodes. They were praising the heroic acts of Rama and Lakshmana and Sugreeva and Hanuman as well. Rama bade goodbye to Matali the charioteer who returned to Lord Indra along with his chariot.

Then Rama embraced Sugreeva and told Lakshmana that he should perform the crowning ceremony of Vibheeshana who had been a sincere friend and who rendered great service to them. Lakshmana took golden pots and ordered the Vanaras to get the seawater for giving a holy bath to Vibheeshana which, they rapidly went and brought. Then Lakshmana seated Vibheeshana in a throne and bathed him. Thus he was crowned amidst the Rakshasas in Lanka.

All the Ministers of Vibheeshana and other Rakshasas were very happy. Vibheeshana after being crowned as the King of Lanka came to Rama and offered him many gifts. Rama was pleased that he could fulfill the promise he had made to Vibheeshana that he would crown him as the King of Lanka and accept the gifts. Then Rama turned to Hanuman and said “Hanuman honor Vibheeshana who is the king now. Make Sita happy by telling her of our victory and also tell her that I am safe with Lakshmana and Sugreeva and that Ravana was killed by me. Do bring back to me her message”.

In the next chapter, We'll see Hanuman’s conversation with Sita.
