Saving Lakshmana’s life - Chapter 25

In the previous chapter, we saw Lakshmana hit by Shakti weapon. , Now we'll see Saving Lakshmana’s life.

Rama called for Susena and asked him to cure Lakshmana. Rama told him “How can I tolerate my dear brother wriggling there on the ground with pain. I cannot fight with full force. If I lose my brother then of what use it is for me to win the war. One can find a relative or even a wife on this earth but one can never get a brother”. Susena consoled Rama and said that Lakshmana was still alive as his clear eyes confirmed and asked Rama not to lose heart. He said that Lakshmana was still breathing as he could see from the movement of his chest. Then he turned to Hanuman and said “You rush and get me the herbs that you were asked to bring by Jambavan once before. Bring me the plant Visalyakarani which would cure the wounds on Lakshmana. Also you bring the Sanjeevani, Swaranakarani and Sandhakarani which would bring back Lakshmana to life”. Hanuman left immediately for the hill where the medicinal plants grew. He could not identify all those plants so he picked up the hill and brought it to Susena. Susena took all the plants he needed and crushing them held it near Lakshmana’s nose. Lo! Lakshmana woke up relieved of all his pains. All the Vanaras praised Susena for the wonderful treatment given to Lakshmana. Rama was so happy and he called Lakshmana to his sides and embraced affectionately and told him how happy he was to see Lakshmana cured. Lakshmana told his brother that he should not feel dejected on any account and he requested Rama to kill Ravana before the Sunset.

It is interesting to mention here the following. Recently the famous plant biologist Dr. Ramesh Maheshwari of Bangalore working on the plant Selaginella has identified it as Sanjeevani from a biochemical angle. He has obtained the most scientifically rigorous and illuminating results. He focused on this plant’s ability to remain dead for months and “resurrect” itself into life in full bloom when water is sprinkled on it. Since Sanjeevani is a plant that resurrects itself from inertness to bustling life, it is believed to resurrect also near-dead people into active life. Professor Maheshwari points out that such “resurrection plants” are the only plants that contain the sugar called trehalose, instead of the usual sugar sucrose. And trehalose has some remarkably unique properties that no other sugar has. And the secret of resurrection plants lies in their ability to synthesize trehalose, which is two glucose molecules attached, and store it as a preservative agent. And some of these molecules are now seen to be of use in medicine. Selaginella is believed by plant scientists to have existed for millions of years.

In the next chapter, We'll see Lakshmana hit by Shakti weapon.
