Ravana became furious and
started showering arrows on Rama as a cloud would deliver heavy rains. But Rama
was in the least perturbed. He did not mind either the arrows stuck to his
chest or his bleeding. The whole place became dark with so many arrows flying
in the sky. Rama laughed and spoke to Ravana harshly. He said “You mean
rakshasa you have taken away my wife in my absence and you are thinking
yourself to be a hero. You desire other’s wives and use force to abduct them and
you think you are a hero. You have accomplished everything using your huge
army. But you are going to reap the harvest today. You are shameless. You will
soon be killed by me and be meeting your brother Khara in the world of Yama.
Your head will be rolling in the dust and you will be prey to birds and
animals. Your nerves split by my arrows would be dragged by birds as if they
were snakes. I will now quench my anger and punish you for having stolen Sita”.
As Rama was thus addressing Ravana he also sent powerful astras on him. Rama
could see all the astras that he had been taught coming in front of his eyes
which he took as a very good omen. This doubled his strength and Ravana began
to shake in fear. His charioteer realized the situation and took the chariot
away from the scene.
