King Janaka welcomes Vishwamitra along with Rama and Lakshmana - Chapter 21

In the previous chapter we saw about The greatness of Vishwamitra as narrated by  Shatananda, Now we will see how king Janaka welcomes Vishvamitra, Rama, and Lakshmana to Mithila.

The next day morning the king Janaka came and invited Vishwamitra along with Rama, Lakshmana and other rishis to go to the Yaga. Then Vishwamitra told Janaka that Rama who was a great expert in the science of archery (Dhanurveda) was eager to see the famous bow in his court. Janaka said that he would be pleased to show Rama the bow and told them the history of that bow.

Once Daksha performed a great Yajnya and he dishonoured Shiva by not inviting him. Shiva who was angry destroyed the Yajnya and burnt Daksha and he took his bow and threatened that he would make all those Devas present headless. All the Devas pleaded for his mercy and worshipped him. Shiva then calmed down and his bow
was handed over to the ancestors of Janaka.

He continued to say that he had found Sita while he was ploughing the place for performing Yaga whom he had adopted as his daughter. (Sita is Ayonija meaning one did not grow in the uterus Garbha. Also, Sita means the straight line formed by the plough while tilling the ground.). Janaka decided that only he who could string the bow could be the fittest person to marry his daughter. But he said that many princes came but they could not even lift the bow which had made him sad. Therefore he was only too pleased that Rama wanted to try his hand at it.

In the next chapter, We'll see how Ramar breaks the Shiva Dhanus (the Bow)
