Tulsi or basil is the sacred plant that is found worshipped in almost all Indian homes. The etymology of the word is- tulanaa naasti athaiva tulsi - i.e., that which has no comparison (in its qualities) is the tulsi.
For Indians, it is one of the most sacred plants. Tulsi shrub (Basil) is considered to be an inherent part of Vishnu worship. The Tulsi shrub is worshipped in almost all Hindu households by the women. The medicinal properties of Tulsi Teertha are too well known. Its greatness is such that the same leaf can be used repeatedly for worship as it is regarded as self-purifying.
