Origin of Vedas

As elaborated above after having slowly evolved in material civilization and having reached certain amount of hold over nature and comforts in life, the human mind started looking at other new and fascinating things around, as a new born child will do. Many things came to his vision and he realized that with the faculty of discrimination while he is questioning many things, the animals and birds are being totally unconcerned about it.

For example while thunder, rain, wind etc., made impact on the animals and birds-the luminous bodies on the sky did make no difference to it. He understood that the animals and birds are responding to bodily impacts and nothing beyond it. Also he realized that many things he was able to do like cultivation or cooking which were never even attempted by the animals and birds.

So he started asking to himself why this is so. Thus the process of self evaluation started, which was going to lay the seed for spiritual evolution later. On the positive side he realized that he is able to think, discern, validate, question, answer, discriminate, imagine, and aspire. On the negative side he noticed that he is not as powerful as many of the animals; his physique is not having many protective organs like teeth, nails ,skin etc.,.

First he was amazed at that fact of his ability to understand many things which his fellow beings were unable to and was curious to know why it is so. Then he thought over it again and again and then realized that he has got one crucially more sense of perception – the capacity to question- which was not there in the animals. Therefore he tried to use this faculty to protect him against the physically powerful animals and got amazing results. Then he started putting it to use for creating comfortable living where also he succeeded. As his life grew stronger and stronger vis-a- vis his contemporary animals and as his life became more and more comfortable, he became inquisitive about the natural facts about him and around him and started to question them more and more.

Initial questions were why he only has got these faculties; who gave it to him; and for what purpose, etc., This became an unstoppable enquiry for some of those men who were not willing to settle down without an answer.

We must know that he has nobody, at that time, to ask answers these questions and had to be figured out only with his own intellect and intuition. So he started questioning himself how, how and how. Many postulations came to his mind viz., just a coincidence, just by accident, just by fluke, just by magic etc., But his rational intellect rejected them ‘neti, neti-not this,not this’ because he could notice a thorough order and rhythm in the whole system. And he was convinced that there has to be a purpose behind the whole thing and there must be a law governing it.

Fundamental Questions

Now as said before they were in deep meditation to find answers for certain very basic and fundamental questions which can be summed up as below:

How did the universe arose

Why did the universe arose

How everything in the universe is functioning with such a rhythm

How so many beings get born, live, enjoy, procreate and pass away

How are we alone able to think and question

What happens after we die

Why there is so much of variety of species

How so much of energy and power could be present and operating

Why some beings are suffering while others are enjoying

What is the fundamental principle that holds the key to all these mysteries
