1) A Man must adopt a Vocation (Occupation) appropriate to His Age, Intellect, Means, Ability in Speaking, dress, Learning, Family and Activity, an occupation free from crookedness and dishonesty.
2) Fitness for receiving a Gift is not merely by Learning, nor even by Penance (Tapas); where, together with these two, there is Noble Character, he indeed is a fit recipient of a gift.
3) On Fate and Personal Effort, depend the Success of an undertaking; of these two, Fate is only the consolidated force of the personal exertion in a Previous Birth. Fate alone without personal exertion does not bring Success.
4) When there is conflict among Law texts, logical interpretation according to accepted usage weighs. The principles of the Texts of Righteous Conduct (Dharma Sastra) are of greater force than those of Texts on Political Affairs (Artha Sastra); this is the understanding.
5) Ridding the Mind, Intellect, Memory and Senses of all other Objects, the Soul – the Lord, who dwells within the Heart like a Lamp, should be Meditated upon.
6) By continuous Practice of the Saman Chants, in the prescribed manner and with Concentration of Mind, a Man attains the Supreme Brahman.
1) Although Efforts were made to identify only those Smriti items applicable to Today’s World, yet the reader has to focus only those Smriti items that are applicable to our own Personal Life.
2) For a Man over 60 years of age who has become a Grandfather, Manu Smriti advises Him to take his Wife (if possible) and live a Secluded Life. This Life style allows the Man to Practice a Detached Life, and start a Truly Spiritual Life away from the enlarged Family. At least an Effort should be made to Practice this kind of Life Style.
3) He must be engaged daily in the Scriptures Studies, he must be Self-Controlled, Affectionate, Composed, always ready to Give, but, never to take from others, and Compassionate to
all the Beings.
4) He must Practice to be indifferent equally to Life and Death.
5) He must put up with criticisms and must insult none in return; he must not pick up quarrels with anybody; he must not return anger for anger; when criticized, he must reply with a Polite Word.
6) Non-Violence, Truthfulness, non-theft, Purity, Sense-Control – says Manu, is the Dharma of all the four castes.
7) The single syllable OM is the Supreme Brahman; there is nothing higher than the Gayatri; suggestion – Meditate on OM and Gayatri Mantra as often as possible.
8) Sinners imagine that none sees them; but they have to remember at all times that the Godswatch them closely, also watched by the Inner Being in oneself.
9) One must slowly build up Dharma Practices in One’s Life without hurting any Being – when we depart this World, only Dharma alone comes with us.
