Rama along with Lakshmana remained there in the Prashravana Mountain eagerly waiting for the month to end. Rama in great wonder asked Sugreeva how he knew so well the geography of all the regions. Sugreeva explained to Rama how he had to travel all over the world in order to escape the rage of his brother Vali who was chasing him to kill him. He recounted the anecdote. Vali was fighting an asura named Dundubhi in a cave. This went on for a year and Sugreeva was waiting for his brother near the cave. Then Sugreeva saw a flood of blood coming out and he thought that Vali had been killed. So Sugreeva wanted to prevent the asura to come out and so closed the cave with a huge rock. But in reality, it was Vali who had killed the asura. So Vali was trapped in the cave. Sugreeva returned and took over the kingdom because he thought that his brother was dead. Finally, Vali returned and vowed to kill Sugreeva. Therefore Sugreeva had to run for life from place to place to escape from Vali and in doing so he could see many places, cities, mountains, valleys, forests, and so on. Finally, it was Hanuman who remembered that the best place for shelter from Vali was the region of the Rishyamooka Mountains because Vali had been cursed by a rishi that if he went there his head would blow into pieces. Sugreeva then went there and thus escaped from Vali.
One month passed and Vanaras
who had gone to the East, West, and North directions all returned to Prashravana
Mountain where Rama and Sugreeva were waiting. They did not find Sita anywhere
and said that only Hanuman was going to find her.
In the next chapter, We'll see Searching for Sita in the Vindhya Mountains..
