Vedic Wisdom - Architecture and Construction

Vedic Wisdom

Architecture and Construction

This is a science involving building materials, soil condition, ground and underground conditions, building size, mathematics, imagination, drawing, articulation, supervision etc., Again look at the palaces and temples they have constructed and the kind of places of living that the archeological excavations have shown – in Harappa or anywhere. Imagine what instruments and resources they could have had then and from that assess their scientific capabilities. We can once again only be awestruck.

Dancing

This is fine art involving body movements, body language, synchronization of sight, hearing, movement of hands, legs and other body parts- all simultaneously happening - coordinated by the mind and intellect , that too in the presence of people where their reactions can give additional and unexpected inputs. They had created so many types of dances – Bharata Natyam to so many – each one of them soul elevating as against today’s dances involving body movements which are at best sensual. We are seeing these dance postures in temples, caves etc., and these postures even in stone elevate your soul.

This is because they realized the cosmic dance and the fact that everything is a dance of the basic elements – the muolaprakritihi and hence nothing was difficult for them. Vedic science always gets to the root in any aspect because once you have mastered it everything is just a fall out of that. That is why they could visualize and portray the shiva tandavas – ananda tandava, rudra tandava, kala tandava, and above all the most fundamental – atomic and blissful – dance of Nataraja.

War craft

This is the science of great importance for humanity because from the moment they started to live in groups, group living protected them from animals but exposed them to inter group enmities and conflicts. This science involves self evaluation, enemy evaluation, context evaluation, time evaluation, location evaluation, motivation techniques, communication techniques, mind games, diplomacy, arms assessment, production, training, troops mobilization – men, horses, elephants- training them, archery, astra, shastra etc., etc., it is an endless permutation and combinations. Today with all modern computers, satellites what we are doing have been surpassed by them. The ultimate of the wars –the battle of Kurukshetra – says it all.

Art of Ruling

They realized that as the mind defines and decides a man, a king defines and decides the people. So they realized that like they have articulated the science for mind control and mind management they have to also codify the art and science of ruling- involving the qualities of a king, abilities required to be a king, training required by him; the selection process of a king; justice administrating system; law and order maintenance mechanism; public development; spending; revenue collection; taxation; public welfare; education, health, skill development etc.,They composed a compendium – a reference point for any king to equitably , sensibly and dutifully administer his kingdom. Most of the current day constitutions are enshrining the doctrines found in this vedic science. There is nothing to match Manu smriti, Ardha shastra, Vidura neeti etc., in these facets.

Societal living

They clearly realized that for peaceful and harmonious living codification of how to live, how to conduct, what all to do , what all not to do at personal and group level is necessary and otherwise it will be chaos and anarchy. Therefore they brought out shastras which is far superior to any societal codification of today and more importantly the shastras have been the base for most of the societal rules of civilized societies. A simple example is about the human greed in respect of three major lusts – women, land and gold. Because many major social upheavals have occurred on account of these only. So it has clearly codified in respect of each.

With respect to ladies it clearly postulated ‘one man one woman’ theory so that there is no cornering of women by the powerful and rendering many others denied of conjugal bliss. The great Ramayana is all about this. The Vedic wisdom clearly abhorred undue obsession with land and the consequences of that; and the great Mahabharata is all about it.Similarly they cautioned about attachment to possessions of material assets like gold etc., and the Great Harishchandra purana is all about it.
