Day six of Navarathri(Shashti): Goddess Katyayani
Katyayani, daughter of Sage Katyayan of Katya lineage.
Appearance of Goddess Katyayani:
Goddess of Katyayani is golden in complexion, with three eyes and has four hands - the upper left hand has lotus the lower hands left hand holds weapon the two right hands has graces her devotees to protect them from evil and fear and other to grant boons. She is seated on Lion that represents Dharma.

या देवी सर्वभूतेषु माँ कात्यायनी रूपेण संस्थिता।नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नम:।।

Legend of Katayayani
The sixth manifestation of Goddess Durga is Goddess Katyayani, the legend says that Sage Katyayan of Kat lineage made a great penance. Pleased with his penance Goddess Durga gave him a boon he desired the most – to raise Maa Durga as his daughter. In the meantime the atrocity of Mahishasur infuriated the Gods Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva infusing their power together created Goddess Durga. Sage Katyayan was the first to get the privilege of Goddess Durga. As desired by the Sage, she took form of a baby on Krishna Chaturdashi to protect devatas from demons and was named Katyayani.
It is also said that Goddess Katyayani is prayed by Gopi’s to get the husband (Krishna) they wished for. This Vrat is called as Katyayani Vrat. Goddess Katyayani is a Goddess of penance who eliminates sufferings and pain, gives enlightenment.
